Personality & Traits

General Overview While not necessarily unfriendly or particularly cold, Jarkko is probably far too serious for his own good. Whether that is due to to personality or to the rather harsh discipline he subjects himself to is debatable.
Strengths & Weaknesses Jarkko has a strong analytical mind which allows him to keep cool under pressure. He also possesses fine tuned reflexes and superior hand-eye coordination, as befits a world class athlete and is trained to work in extreme conditions.

He is however set in his ways and works best with his own methods and equipment rather than the standard issue and procedure.

Ambitions His primary ambition is to participate in first contact missions and to communicate with new civilizations, something his training as a linguist sets him up for admirably.
Hobbies & Interests Jarkko was a world class athlete in pentathlon and biathlon. As such his hobbies include fencing, pistol and rifle practice, running, skiing...

Personal History Jarkko was born to middle class parents in Turku, Finland. Finland very much being a bi-lingual country, it was at an early age that he discovered he had a knack for languages. By the age of 12, he already spoke Finnish and it's Lappi derivative, Swedish, and English, and by the end of high school, he had already added Danish and Norwegian to his skill set.

Encouraged by his parents, Jarkko took up biathlon early and developped an interest in pentathlon shortly after, setting much of his free time into developing its many related skills.

At the age of 18, the mandatory conscription still in effect in Finland called him to serve. He spent 8 weeks in basic training as every conscript does. Because of his performances and the fact that he was already a fluent swedish speaker, he was selected to be part of the Nyland Brigade and to be trained for the Finnish Coastal Jaegers (Marine Commandos) and was selected, with around 10% his peers to receive the 7 weeks first level of NCO training rather than a specific vocational training and from there, was of another 10% who were sent to Reserve Officer School, which he completed, finishing his mandatory service as a Coastal Jaeger Reserves 2Lt.

Having liked his experience in the military, Jarkko enrolled at the Finnish Defense University where he took on a bachelor's degree in linguistics, a master's degree in crisis management and completed his studies in 2013 with a PHD in Military Sciences - Sociology, all the while maintaining his involvement with the yearly exercises and refresher programs of the reserves.

He has since served several tours in Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon as interpreter, sociologist and front-line officer.
